About Battle Ground, Washington
Battle Ground is a city of approximately 23,000 in Clark County, Washington, about 20 miles north of Vancouver. Known for its small-town atmosphere, strong community identity, and dramatic population growth in recent decades, Battle Ground offers easy access to the Columbia River Gorge and Mount St. Helens.
History of Battle Ground
Battle Ground was named after a 19th-century standoff between Army troops and a group of Klickitat people who had left the reservation. No battle actually occurred — the Klickitat returned peacefully — but the name stuck. The community grew slowly as a small agricultural town until the 1990s, when rapid suburban growth from Vancouver pushed the population from about 4,000 to over 20,000 in just three decades.
