History of Gresham
Gresham was incorporated in 1905 and was originally named Camp Ground for the area's Methodist camp meetings. It was later renamed after Walter Q. Gresham, a U.S. Postmaster General. Early economic activity centered on berry farming and timber. Dramatic growth began in the 1960s and continues today, with Gresham expanding rapidly as part of the Portland metro area.
