History of Tigard
Tigard was named for Wilson Tigard, an early settler who established a general store in the late 1800s. The community remained small through much of the 20th century, serving as a stop along the old Oregon Electric Railway. Suburban growth accelerated dramatically in the 1960s with highway construction, transforming Tigard into a regional retail and residential center.
