About Tualatin, Oregon
Tualatin is a city of approximately 28,000 straddling the border of Washington and Clackamas counties, about 12 miles southwest of Portland. Named for the Tualatin River that runs through it, the city is home to major retail, manufacturing, and the well-loved Tualatin Commons.
History of Tualatin
Tualatin takes its name from the Tualatin Kalapuya, the Native American people who inhabited the Tualatin River Valley. The city was platted in 1886, and for most of its history was a small agricultural community. It grew substantially beginning in the 1970s with the construction of I-5 and the development of large employers like Lam Research and Nike's distribution facility.
